Fox is jumping from the modern hip-hop world to Harlem’s big band jazz era with a team that includes L.A. Reid, Empire co-executive producer Ayanna Floyd and the duo behind NBC’s recent musicals.
The Epic Records chairman will serve as executive music supervisor and series EP on Cotton Club, a soap opera set in the "whites only" New York club that was home to the likes of Duke Ellington, Cab Calloway and gangsters.
Craig Zadan and Neil Meron are also executive producing; Sony Pictures TV, where their Storyline Entertainment is based, is producing.
Floyd is rewriting the pilot script, which Kenny Leon (The Wiz Live!, Hairspray Live!) will direct. Leon and Floyd first worked together on ABC's Private Practice. Deadline and Variety first reported the details.
