SOME PRE-BRITS MUSINGS

A tribute to George Michael will take place at tonight’s BRIT Awards, while Coldplay have reportedly joined the line-up and Ed Sheeran is set to reveal something new, according to news ahead of tonight's ceremony in London. Will there be any surprises? And which nominees are we putting our money on?

British Male Solo Artist is expected to go to David Bowie (RCA)—and is it time for Lianne La Havas (WBR) to be honored as British Female Solo Artist?

It’s a toss up between UMG and Sony for British Group: The 1975 (Dirty Hit/Polydor) or Little Mix (Syco). Stormzy, who has a distribution deal with Warner’s ADA, could rep the mainstream emergence of grime in the Breakthrough Act category, while Atlantic up-and-comer Anne-Marie might get her chance in the British Single stakes with “Rockabye” by Clean Bandit f/Sean Paul.

Will Artist Video be One Direction's emotional swan song "History" (Syco)?

Judges could go fair (The 1975), diverse (Skepta, who's distributed by Sony's Red) or honorable (David Bowie) on Album of the Year.

For International Solo Artist, we’d predict Drake (Island) vs. Bon Iver (Jagjaguwar), and Solange (RCA) vs. Beyonce (Columbia). The latter has been nominated in the category six times and won once in 2004—BRIT judges might be keen to avoid accusations of a second snub after Bey's Grammys loss. Elsewhere, we'd vote Atlantic duo Twenty One Pilots for International Group.

We'll report back on all the winners alongside the inside goings-on of the ceremony later on (or tomorrow morning, depending on the quality of the wine).
