THE ALTERNATIVE POWER 100

The London-based shesaid.so—founded by Andreea Magdalina—is a curated network of women in the music industry. Frustrated by Billboard’s shabby inclusion of women on their "power" list, and by the general boys club mentality of the industry, members of the group have decided to create the Alternative Power 100 Music List. Can we get a "Hell, yeah?!" Nominations are currently being accepted.

"The Alternative Power 100 Music List came to life at the suggestion of one of our shesaid.so members. The initial email sprouted quite a debate and we decided to galvanize all this energy into positive action," explained Magdalina when this 25-year-old female editor feverishly tweeted at her.

"Our focus with this list is on traditionally under-represented communities, including women, people of color and LGBTQ," she continued. "We want to use this as a vehicle to raise awareness about inequality in the music industry, and inequality in general."

shesaid.so, established in September 2014, lists their objectives as such:

• To break down gender stereotypes within the music industry by encouraging role models for future generations
• To raise awareness of the gender gap and to ensure that women are aware that support is available to them throughout their career
• To increase the profile of women who are making an impact in the music industry
• To increase the number of women with active roles in the music industry across all its verticals

The organization hosts monthly events in London at Shoreditch House and Spotify and in L.A. at Soho House. Similar events occur on a quarterly basis at an array of cities, including San Francisco, NYC, Paris, Berlin and Lisbon. Click here for more info.

As for Magdalina, Mixcloud's former VP of Content co-founded artist management company IAMJT in the summer of 2015, and she currently serves as consultant for Transatlantic Entertainment—a large tech company in the music, entertainment and tech fields. There, she helps source and manage music partnerships for the Microsoft Office and Skype teams.
