BBC TALENT EXEC EXITS FOR AMAZON

Head of the BBC’s new talent strand Introducing, Jason Carter, is exiting the Beeb after 20 years to join Amazon U.K. for a new initiative, according to Record of the Day. Carter will still be working in music, and hints on social media suggest it could be events-related.

Carter leaves behind his title as Head of Live Music, International and BBC Introducing. A former manager and promoter, the exec has been involved in Introducing since it launched in 2007.

Under Carter’s leadership, more than 40 BBC Introducing local radio shows have been launched across the U.K. The shows have helped acts such as alt-J, Bombay Bicycle Club, Catfish & The Bottlemen, Jake Bugg, Florence and the Machine, Saint Raymond and Slaves go from unsigned chancers to full-time recording artists.

In 2015, Carter's role was bolstered with the international part, and he was tasked with raising the profile of BBC Music through partnerships and commercial arrangements worldwide.

What could his new title be? Here’s an idea: Amazon was looking for a Senior Business Development Manager, Music (U.K.) for Amazon Tickets toward the latter part of last year, detailing clear ambitions to make a play for the live music industry. Could the successful candidate be Carter?
