U.K. CHARTS: ELBOW POPS TO #1

Elbow went head and shoulders above the competition in the U.K. this week, securing #1 on the Official Albums Chart with 40k combined chart sales. Ed Sheeran, meanwhile, set a new U.K. record with “Shape of You” and “Castle on the Hill.”

Elbow’s seventh studio album, Little Fictions (Polydor), is their second #1, the first being 2014's The Take Off and Landing of Everything. It is their fifth album to reach the Top 10.

The week saw three newcomers hit personal bests: Black Star RidersHeavy Fire (Nuclear Blast) landed at #6; Sampha's Process (Young Turks) is #7 and Lower Than AtlantisSafe in Sound (Easy Life) is #9.

Last week’s #1, Interscope’s La La Land soundtrack, drops to #2 followed by Little Mix's Glory Days (Syco) at #3. Pete Tong's Classic House (Polydor) dropped to #4 and Adele’s 25 (XL) is #9.

The Super Bowl appearance paid off for Interscope’s Lady Gaga across the ocean as her Joanne rose 77 slots to #11, and The Fame hit #38, the first time it has been in the Top 40 since October 2011.

Sheeran’s singles have sat at #1 and #2 for five weeks, topping the record of four set by Justin Bieber’s “Sorry” and “Love Yourself.” “Shape of You” registered 41k sales and 8.14m streams during the week. His last album, x (Asylum), is up to #5.

The highest new entry is Stormzy’s “Big For Your Boots” (Merky) at #8. His debut album, Gang Signs & Prayer, comes out 2/24. 

ZAYN/Taylor Swift's “I Don't Wanna Live Forever” (Republic) is up four slots to #9; Dua Lipa cracks the Top 10 for the first time with “Be the One” (Warner Bros.) at #10.
