KATY PERRY BREAKS THE CHAINS

The wait is over. Capitol's Katy Perry finally dropped "Chained to the Rhythm" Thursday and it's already Top 5 at iTunes. It's an infectiously groovy pop song, but with a pointedly conscious tone in the lyrics that make this track critically relevant and in Katy's own words, "purposeful pop."

Produced by pop master Max Martin along with Ali Payami, and co-written by Katy, Max and Aly along with Sia, the song also features a rap by Skip Marley—the grandson of reggae legend Bob Marley.

This is the first single from her fourth album, which hasn't been given an official title or release date yet, but Perry is all about the ramp-up, as evidenced by how clever the marketing was around the song's unveil. She will perform the new single for the first time live on the Grammy Awards Sunday night.
