WOLTER RETURNS TO VIRGIN AS EVP

In the first step toward rebuilding Virgin Records, David Wolter has been named Executive Vice President of the label. Wolter will sign and develop artists for Virgin, as well as oversee recording projects for new and established artists.

Wolter will report to Capitol Music Group President Ashley Newton, who made the announcement today. Wolter is based in in the Tower.

“David’s track record speaks to his impeccable taste and skills as an A&R executive,” said Newton, who first lured Wolter to Virgin back in 1997. “We've had a longstanding and close working relationship in the past, and I couldn’t be happier that he is taking on such an important role at Virgin Records as we reimagine the label.”

Wolter has spent the last nine years at RCA, most recently as SVP A&R, where he worked closely with Walk the Moon, Elle King, Bleachers and Ray LaMontagne. Prior to joining RCA, Wolter was VP A&R for Virgin, working with Gorillaz, Katy Perry, 30 Seconds to Mars and many others. He had previous stints at Mercury and Hollywood Records.

“When Ashley Newton first brought me to Virgin almost 20 years ago, the label was creatively left of center and far ahead of the curve,” Wolter said. “Steve Barnett and Ashley articulate a similarly exciting vision for where they want Virgin to be headed, and I thank them for this great opportunity to be playing a key position in helping that vision become reality.”
