For the first time in a while, the iTunes album Top 10 is full of fresh faces on flipover Friday. Columbia’s John Mayer has the pole position, as seven new titles land in the Top 10. Add to that a five-year-old collection enjoying, of all things, a Trumpian boost.
The first four songs from Mayer’s upcoming 10th album have been collected under the title The Search for Everything—Wave One, and it is sitting at #1 on the iTunes chart bright and early today. The EP is already #13 on Apple Music’s albums chart.
Additional four-song waves from the album will be released throughout the next several months, culminating with the release of the physical album this spring.
Razor & Tie’s Vessels floats in at #2 with Starset, followed by The Last Text EP (T3) from 14-year-old Internet sensation Jacob Sartorius.
Goth-punk act AFI sees AFI (The Blood Album) (Concord) drip in at #4 and Us, the self-released debut album from Brian Lanning, whose celebrity owes to his YouTube posts of original songs, is at #5. Reggaeton singer Nicky Jam is at #6 with Fenix (Sony Latin); the 34th edition of Kidz Bop (New Razor & Tie/Concord) covers up #9.
And in the wake of Thursday’s concert outside the Lincoln Memorial, 3 Doors Down see their 2012 Republic release The Greatest Hits rise to #8.
At Apple Music, Big Sean’s I Decided. (GO.O.D./Def Jam) is #3 despite having with only three tracks released prior to the 2/3 release of the album. His “Bounce Back” is #6 on the songs chart; “Halfway Off the Balcony” was released Thursday.
