THE iTUNES NEW YEAR'S DAY PARADE:
SOUNDTRACKS AND SALES SPECIALS (UPDATE)

Soundtracks continue to loom large on the iTunes chart during the first week of 2017, accounting for half of the Top 10 albums. Disney's Moana (with songs by Hamilton's Lin-Manuel Miranda) holds steady #1, the buzzing Damien Chazelle musical La La Land (Interscope) is #2, the animated vocal competition Sing (Republic) sits at #3, the Deluxe Moana is #7 and the original cast recording of Hamilton is #8.

The Justin Timberlake-led Trolls (RCA), previously a Top 10 fixture, is now #13.

Bargain pricing of $5.99-$6.99 is also helping an array of titles to levitate, notably the standard Moana, Drake's Views (YMCMB/Republic) at #4 and The Rolling Stones' blues set at #9.

We note that 69-cent pricing also appears to be an engine of sales on the singles side, with Shawn Mendes' "Mercy" (Island) at #2, Capitol's Niall Horan at #5 with "This Town," "Let Me Love You" by Interscope's DJ Snake f/Justin Bieber at #7 and Capitol's Jon Bellion rising to #11 with "All Time Low."

Speaking of all-time lows, pass the Pepto, would ya?
