CHART STORY: PTX'S HEAT-SEEKING MISTLETOE

Well, now it feels like Christmas. RCA’s Pentatonix have taken the #1 spot on our SPS chart, with just over 200k with A Pentatonix Christmas. The a cappella fivesome’s prior holiday set, That’s Christmas to Me, also lands in the Top 5. With two other titles in the Top 50, the group racks up more than 300k total this week. Ho ho ho, and also: cha-ching.

The occasion also marks the band's second #1 album in just over a year.

WMG’s Bruno Mars moves up to #2 with over 114k, followed by XO/Republic’s The Weeknd with 100k+, Dreamville/Roc Nation/Interscope’s J. Cole (91k+) and the aforementioned 2014 PTX yuletide offering, which rounds out the Top 5 with 80k+.

Pearl’s Garth Brooks enjoys a healthy #10-6 jump with 63k for The Ultimate Collection. Uptown’s Hamilton ST, Blackened’s Metallica, the blues set from Interscope’s Rolling Stones and Disney’s Moana ST complete the Top 10.

The week’s biggest SPS debut is from Republic’s Kid Cudi, who lands at #11 with just about 48k.

SPS marketshare breaks down thusly between the major label groups: UMG has 39%, Sony takes 33% and WMG takes 28%.

On the Album Sales Chart, Sony takes the marketshare lead with 35%, followed by UMG at 31% and WMG with 26%. PTX’s new one rules the Album side as well with just about 180k. Brooks claims the #3 spot with about 63k (while his Ultimate Hits flies #40-9 with another 40k or so), followed by That’s Christmas at #4 (60k+) and the Stones rounding out the Top 5 with about 50k. Kid Cudi debuts at #18 on the Album chart with 25k, having been buoyed on SPS by impressive streaming numbers.

Now if you’ll excuse us, the kiddie pool is almost full of eggnog. Have a lovely holiday.
