DRAKE DOMINATES SPOTIFY IN 2016

As 2016 nears its end, Spotify has released its most streamed artists and songs lists, with Drake topping a nearly all-American Top 5 with 4.7b global streams over the last 12 months.

It’s the second year in a row for YMCMB/Republic’s Drake at #1, as his tally more than doubles his record of 1.8b streams in 2015. His Views is the most streamed album of all time as he tops the global and U.S. year-end artist, album and song lists.

Westbury Road/Roc Nation’s Rihanna was the year’s most streamed female act with more than 2.5b streams; she, too, was #1 in the category a year ago.

Drake’s “One Dance” beat out Major Lazer f/and DJ Snake’s “Lean Onas the most streamed song on Spotify of all time. Users listened to the song, released in April, nearly 970m times.

Before you peruse the evidence for yourself below, we'll leave you with a final observation. Three of Spotify’s most popular artists had exclusive deals with competitors. West’s The Life of Pablo was a Tidal exclusive for almost seven weeks, Drake’s Views was an Apple Music exclusive for two weeks, and Rihanna’s ANTI was a botched Tidal exclusive for a few days before arriving on Apple Music and then Spotify a week later.
