Spotify released their own 25 Under 25 list, featuring the most played artists under the age of 25 based on streaming stats from the music service.
Coming in at #1 is 18-year-old Shawn Mendes, followed by Ariana Grande, Chance the Rapper, Martin Garrix and Justin Bieber.
It's also notable that three of of the Top 5 artists are managed by Scooter Braun, who counts Grande, Garrix and of course Bieber as clients and famously knows a thing or two about navigating the millennial era of digital music.
Other under-25 stars Spotify heralded include Def Jam's Alessia Cara, Epic's Fifth Harmony, Republic's Hailee Steinfeld, Harvest's Glass Animals, Mom + Pop's Flume, plus Mad Love/Interscope's Tory Lanez and Astralwerks/Capitol's Halsey, the latter two of whom were both recently featured in HITS' own Grammy issue.
The top 25 list also includes newcomers such as Desiigner (G.O.O.D./Def Jam), the 19-year-old who earned nearly half a billion streams of his smash "Panda." Also included are Selena Gomez, Rae Sremmurd and Demi Lovato.
This is Spotify's third annual 25 Under 25 list. “With so many young listeners on Spotify, it’s always fascinating to hone in on the peer artists they’re listening to and looking up to,” said Shanon Cook, Spotify’s Digital Trends Expert.
