RCA's a cappella fivesome Pentatonix is celebrating the holidays a little early. Their freshly released set A Pentatonix Christmas is battling with Lady Gaga for #1 on the iTunes album chart, while "Hallelujah," the ravishing Leonard Cohen cover that is the collection's lead single and which flew upward all weekend, moves to Top 5 on the tracks side. Its clip (see below) sits at #1 on the video chart and has earned about 6.7 million views since its 10/21 arrival. Look for the new set to chart this week with first-week sales in the neighborhood of 47k SPS, 41k album sales. Not bad for Christmas in October.
Sunday's (10/23) album and singles sales were up from Saturday's.
On the singles chart the group is outpaced only by Disruptor/Columbia phenoms The Chainsmokers.
The 11-track yuletide album (presently priced at $9.99 at the download emporium) also features holiday faves like "White Christmas," "God Rest Ye, Merry Gentlemen" and "I'll Be Home for Christmas," so look for a serious spike as the seasonal decorations start going up.
The vocal quintet's last holiday set, That's Christmas to Me, hit #1 in 2014 and became—with Q4 receipts alone—the fourth-top-selling album of the year; with singles and streaming, the project is close to the 2m mark; its RTD streams are at 108m (72k SEA). It's currently #36 at iTunes, while the group's duet with Dolly Parton on "Jolene" (13.1m+ video views) has moved back up to #84.
