THE NEXT ERA
OF DOUG

When Doug Morris cedes day-to-day operation of Sony Music to Rob Stringer in April, it won't be the end of his tenure at the company.

In fact, Morris will continue as Chairman, reporting to Michael Lynton.

That said, the highly respected exec will be ending his active oversight of operations at the top of his game, with strong marketshare at the group level, his Columbia leading SPS share and #2 in label share, with RCA #3 in the latter category.

Going forward, meanwhile, he'll continue to offer a resource that has proved indispensable to countless key players: guidance.

The value of Morris’ counsel, according to Stringer, has been profound. The latter says that their daily chats have played a big role in Columbia’s dramatic success over the last few years—the greatest label success since the reign of another Morris protégé, Jimmy Iovine, at Interscope. Indeed, when the book on Doug Morris is written, his mentoring of the modern era’s top music execs will be seen as a vital contributor to the success of all three major music companies.
