FLIPOVER FRIDAY: ITUNES AND APPLE MUSIC NEW ARRIVALS

Here it is, 9/30, the final day of eligibility for the 59th annual Grammy Awards, and what a deluge of new releases. The first dozen titles at the iTunes store are rookies, with Bon Iver and Van Morrison bookending the Top 12. Another eight new releases are in the 13-24 slots. “This Town” from Neon Haze/Capitol’s Niall Horan is at #1 on the Top Songs list, hitting the apex within 24 hours of its release.

Bon Iver’s third album 22, A Million (Jagjaguwar) opens at #1 on flipover Friday, followed by Banks’ second album The Altar (Harvest) and Solange’s A Seat at the Table (Columbia). Two indie releases sit at #4 and #5: Jonathan David & Melissa Helser’s Beautiful Surrender (Bethel) and Yellowcard’s self-titled release on Hopeless.

The deluxe edition of Regina Spektor’s sixth release for Sire, Remember Us to Life, comes in at #6 ahead of season three X Factor USA champs Alex & Sierra’s As Seen on TV (A&S Partnership).

The legendary John Prine’s collection of duets with women singers such as Miranda Lambert, Kacey Musgraves, Susan Tedeschi and Lee Ann Womack, For Better, Or Worse (Oh Boy), rings in at #8.

Dave East’s Kari Chanel (Mass Appeal) and Opeth’s Sorceress (Nuclear Blast) float in at #9 and #10.

Since we’re old-time rockers around here, we have to mention #11 and #12—Bob Weir’s Blue Mountain (Columbia/Legacy/ROAR) and Van Morrison’s Keep Me Singing (Exile/Caroline). Intriguingly, neither album is available on streaming services today.

The Weeknd f/Daft Punk’s “Starboy” (Republic), released last week, sits at #1 on the Apple Music side. We’ve got a call in to our bookie for an over/under on when “False Alarm,” which dropped Thursday, will join it.
