All you need to know about the long-awaited second album from British artist Emeli Sandé has been revealed, with first single “Hurts” out today, and currently sitting at #19 on the iTunes U.K. chart. So what’s it called?
Long Live the Angels is out via Virgin EMI in the U.K. (Capitol in the U.S.) on 11/11. It follows Sandé’s 4m-worldwide-selling debut, Our Version of Events, in 2012.
Our Version of Events was the biggest-selling album of 2012 in the U.K., where it was certified 7x Platinum and spent 63 consecutive weeks in the U.K. Album Chart Top 10—more than any other debut album ever, including The Beatles' Please Please Me. Its first single, "Next to Me," sold more than 7m downloads worldwide, including 1.5m in the U.S., where it has been certified platinum. Sandé won three BRIT Awards, two Ivor Novellos and a BET award, as well as Breakthrough Artist of the Year at the 2013 Music Biz Awards. She has also written songs for Alicia Keys, Rihanna and Katy Perry.
The new music is “very soulful, and the lyric writing is exemplary—she’s got loads to say,” says Sandé’s A&R, and the man who signed her to UMG U.K., Glyn Aikins. She certainly has: Since 2012, Sandé got married and divorced within the space of a year, while battling her swift success and the attention it brought.
Instant-grat track “Hurts” was produced and co-written by Sandé alongside Mac & Phil (known for work with Miguel and Naughty Boy). Other collaborators on the album include Jay Electronica, British songwriter Jonny Coffer and previous collaborators Mojam.
