THE CHART BELONGS
TO BABS

Never underestimate Barbra. Columbia's 74-year-old vocal goddess, thanks to a late-week surge and ticket bundle, has captured the #1 spot on this week's HITS Sales Plus Streaming (SPS) Chart with a total of 151k. She also tops the Album Sales Chart with 150k. Yes, that means during an era dominated by streaming, she was able to score #1 SPS honors with a number based almost entirely on pure sales.

Oh, and FYI, she’s the only artist who’s had a #1 record in every decade since the sixties. Of course, Encore: Movie Partners Sing Broadway marks her second #1 in the 2010s, as predecessor Partners bowed with 195k in 2014; Partners is currently approaching 1m RTD. It's enough to make a longtime fan feel verklempt.

As for this week’s race, though, BMLG’s Florida Georgia Line put up one hell of a fight, resulting in a photo finish. They debut at #2 on the SPS Chart with 148k for Dig Your Roots.

RCA pop icon Britney Spears rounds out the Top 3, as her ninth studio album Glory bows with 116k.

Despite lackluster ratings, the true stars of the MTV VMAsBeyoncé, Rihanna, who was presented with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, and Kanye, who delivered a new video and a typically Kanye-esque speech—saw significant chart bumps. Bey’s Lemonade (Columbia) broke back into the Top 10 and ‘Ye’s The Life of Pablo (G.O.O.D./Def Jam) returned to the Top 20, while RiRi’s ANTI (Westbury Road/Roc Nation) saw a 17% surge to hold at #9, although four new releases should have been enough to push it down.

Meanwhile, Juan Gabriel’s death sparked buying from fans, who continue to mourn and remember his legendary career. Mis Numero 1… 40 Aniversario (Sony Music Latin) re-entered the Album Sales Chart at #20, Los Duo 2 (Universal Latin) re-entered at #27 and Los Duo (Universal Latin) re-entered at #37.

Streeting this week are albums from Epic/Grand Hustle’s Travis Scott— who dropped Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight (a two-week Apple exclusive) as a surprise Friday morning—ADA’s A Day To Remember and Burning Rope/Faction’s James Vincent McMorrow.

We look forward to seeing what Labor Day Weekend-related bumps show up on next week’s chart. In other words, we can’t wait to see what y’all stream/buy while blackout drunk.
