NFL EYEING ADELE FOR SUPER BOWL? (UPDATE)

U.K. tabloid The Sun isn’t always the most reliable of sources, but a recent rumour concerning a certain Ms. Adkins could very well be true. Will Adele headline the Super Bowl halftime show in 2017?

An NFL source reportedly told The Sun: “There is nobody bigger in the world than Adele right now and organizers are doing absolutely everything they can to try to persuade her to sign up. She’s sold out every date on her tour, everyone wants a piece of her and they know they can bank on her bringing in the viewers. It’s Adele’s nerves that are the issue—it hasn’t been an easy sell.”

Here’s another issue: The Super Bowl is 2/5 on Fox; the Grammys are 2/12 on CBS. How would this insanely high-profile booking impact an Adele Grammy performance seven days later? Would the Grammys still want her? Would Fox let her be on the Grammys, and would CBS be precluded from using her likeness to promote their show prior to the Super Bowl? This could get interesting, to say the least.

This year, you’ll no doubt recall, headliner Coldplay was joined by the triumvirate of Beyoncé, Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson, and the combined superstar power brought down the house. (Though the booking appeared to cost Ronson and Mars a performance slot on the Grammys, even though their megahit "Uptown Funk!" was favored to win—and did, in fact, win—Record of the Year.)

Adele could do the show solo, considering the global phenomenon that is 25, and the popularity of her current tour, which wraps 11/15 in Mexico City. And as rumors go, you figure this one was going to get started at some point.

With her new Sony deal in place, the label will no doubt be seeking out U.S. opportunities, though manager Jonathan Dickins is notoriously incredibly picky over the gigs Adele accepts. More news as we have it.
