THE PUBCO FROM IPANEMA

When the Olympics are in Rio, it's good to be the publisher with the Antônio Carlos Jobim catalog, including but definitely not limited to "The Girl From Ipanema," not to mention fellow Brazilian great Vinicius de Moraes. So the folks at UMPG are understandably dancing a celebratory bossa nova just now.

The works of these seminal composers transformed world pop and jazz when they hit the scene in the 60s, and their music is all over the Rio games, with special visibility at the opening and closing ceremonies. Indeed, none other than Gisele sashayed down the runway to the immortal "Girl From Ipanema." You'll also be hearing some of this Brazilian standards during gymnastics routines and other moments.

Add to this current UMPG writer and pop star Anitta, who performed her trademark mix of funk, pop and samba at the opening ceremony, and Heitor Villa-Lobos, who penned the hugely influential "Bachianas No. 7 (Preludio)." Of course, there's also the International Olympic Committee promo from The Roots (co-written by Questlove and Tarik of the band), among other spots, teasers, commercials and more surrounding the games. Team Jody's two dozen or so tunes featured during the Olympics are definitely fetching some "Real" money.
