U.K. CHARTS: DRAKE'S 15TH WEEK AT #1

Drake has scored yet another week at #1 on the U.K. Official Singles Chart with “One Dance” (Island) now notching 15 weeks at the top, putting him on par with Wet Wet Wet’s record in ’94, “Love Is All Around.” One more week, and he’ll share the longest consecutive run at the singles summit of all time with Bryan Adams’ “(Everything I Do) I Do It For You” in ’91.

Over on the Official Albums Chart, Polydor soul man Michael Kiwanuka has scored his first #1 with second album Love & Hate. Sales were no doubt helped along in part by a £4.99 reduced price promotion the UMG label on Amazon, as well as a TV advertising campaign. It is Polydor’s first #1 album under new presidents Tom March and Ben Mortimer.

Adele’s 25 (XL) is #2, marking its 31st week in the Top 10, followed by promising French act Christine & The Queens at #3 with debut Chaleur Humaine. The record is released by Emmanuel de Buretel’s Because Music in Blighty, whose excellent run at the moment will only be furthered by the new Major Lazer and Justin Bieber single “Cold Water,” that’s shot to #1 on U.K. iTunes the morning of its release. Will it be the one to knock Drake from his Singles Chart peak? Elsewhere on albums, Drake’s Views is #4 and Coldplay close the Top 5 withA Head Full of Dreams (Parlophone).

Over on the Official Singles Chart, “One Dance” is also the most streamed track with 4.33m listens. After lots of talk of the stagnant singles chart, Record of the Day reported that the 100 streams = one sale formula that the Official Charts use to calculate combined singles sales is under serious scrutiny from the industry, with a new measurement on the way in the next few weeks.

Jonas Blue and JP Cooper rise one place to #2 with “Perfect Strangers” (Virgin EMI) and “Don’t Let Me Down” from Chainsmokers f/Daya (RCA) slips to #3. Calum Scott’s downtempo cover of “Dancing On My Own” (Virgin EMI) and Kungs vs Cookin’ on 3 Burners “This Girl” (3 Beat) are both non movers, staying put at #4 and #5 respectively.
