THE "RISE" OF KATY

Katy Perry has dropped a brand new single, "Rise," as an Apple exclusive for streaming and download. It's the Capitol superstar's first new music since the blockbuster PRISM. The song, which completed its, um, rise to #1 at iTunes Friday morning, will serve as a soundtrack for NBC's coverage of the 2016 Summer Olympics. Additionally, the Apple and iTunes slowcases are now 100% Katy.

"Rise," reportedly intended as an anthem of hope and resilience in a fearful time, will play up to and throughout the Rio games, including primetime coverage on 8/5, the night of the opening ceremony. An original spot for the song will screen in 20k movie theaters beginning tomorrow, with an extended spot slated for the Today Show at 8am.

“This is a song that’s been brewing inside me for years, that has finally come to the surface. I was inspired to finish it now, rather than save it for my next album, because now more than ever, there is a need for our world to unite,” the singer declared. “I know that together we can rise above the fear - in our country, and around the world. I can’t think of a better example than the Olympic athletes, as they gather in Rio with their strength and fearlessness, to remind us how we ALL can come together, with the resolve to be the best we can be. I hope this song can inspire us to heal, unite, and rise together. I am honored that NBC Olympics has chosen to use it as an anthem before and during the Rio Games.”
