Imagine a Top 10 that includes The Beatles, Metallica, AC/DC and Guns N’ Roses. No, it’s not just the nightly dream of a black T-shirt-wearing, pony-tailed 40-something; it’s the current Top Albums chart at iTunes.
The classic rock titles Abbey Road, Back in Black ,Metallica (the black album) and Appetite for Destruction are riding the wave of a $7.99 “all-time essential albums” sale. Purple Rain, which has been performing well since Prince’s death, is at #2 thanks partially to the sale.
Other sale items from the ‘70s and ‘80s creeping into the Top 50 are Carole King’s Tapestry, Stevie Wonder’s Songs in the Key of Life and Michael Jackson’s Thriller. Bruce Springsteen’s Born in the USA and Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon are sitting just outside the Top 100. The sale also includes recent titles from Sia, Kendrick Lamar, Amy Winehouse, Elle King and others.
