Live Nation chief Michael Rapino has announced that the event behemoth is teaming up with nonprofit Global Citizen. The org has set the admirable if challenging goal of ending extreme poverty by 2030; its initiative with LN aims to raise awareness and conduct advocacy via live events. The tentpole event for this partnership is the Global Citizen Festival in NYC's Central Park, the lineup of which is due to be announced on 7/26.
"Live Nation is lending our live music expertise to produce the festival, and will also mobilize our global network of 63 million fans to get as many people as possible involved in the Global Citizen movement," Rapino wrote to his troops. "Additionally, Ticketmaster will handle all ticketing for the festival as well as ticketing support for the Global Citizen Tickets program, which gives fans the ability to activate and earn tickets to many different concerts and events throughout the year."
Global Citizen leverages social media and email to work for various humanitarian causes, including gender equality, fighting hunger and ending violence and discrimination against women and girls. A TED talk by GC founder Hugh Evans can be found here.
