KENDRICK, JANELLE SERENADE THE OBAMAS

Kendrick Lamar and Janelle Monae headlined Malia Obama’s final White House birthday party and the President displayed his vocal chops on that public domain classic, “Happy Birthday.”

"And just because it's a job of a father to embarrass his daughters, I've got one last job," President Obama said. "It just so happens that we celebrate our country's birthday on the same day that we celebrate my oldest daughter's birthday."

Obama’s opening acts performed in the White House East Room after bad weather forced the move indoors. Lamar’s set included "Swimming Pools (Drank),” “Money Trees,” "Bitch, Don't Kill My Vibe" and "Alright"; Monáe’s performance included “Dance Apocalyptic,” “Q.U.E.E.N.” and “Electric Lady,” and closed with Prince’s "Let's Go Crazy."

Obama praised Lamar and Monáe as “amazing artists and talented and popular and doing great things, but they're also very conscious about their responsibilities and obligations. And they put in a lot of time and effort on behalf of a lot of causes that are important. We're really proud of them for that."
