CHART STORY: DRAKE AND NICK RULE!

Views Keeps Kicking Tuchus, While a Debut Conquers on Sales

Drake’s Views (YMCMB/Republic) has yet to have met its kryptonite, as it spends its seventh week as #1 on HITSSales Plus Streaming (SPS) Chart and tacks on another 121k. As Bernie would say, the thing’s YUGE.

On the Album Sales Chart, Nick JonasLast Year Was Complicated (Safehouse/Island) debuted at #1 with 47k. And at SPS, Jonas landed at #2 with a total of 70k.

Following last Sunday’s Tony Awards—the most-watched one in 15 years, mind you—the soundtrack for Hamilton, which nabbed 11 wins, soared to #3 with 62k in SPS and #2 with 45k in album sales alone.

As for the remaining, notable bows, Capitol newcomer Jon Bellion debuted in the Top 5, raking in 39k for his first official full-length, The Human Condition. Meanwhile, the veteran alt-rockers of Vagrant’s Garbage finished #13 with Strange Little Birds, the Shirley Manson-led band’s sixth studio album. One of the acts at the forefront of alt-rock now, Triple 8’s Kaleo, made their entrance at #18.

In the stamina department, Beyoncé’s Lemonade (Columbia) heldstrong at #4, Rihanna’s ANTI (Westbury Road/Roc Nation) held at #6 and Adele’s 25 (XL/Columbia) and Chris Stapleton’s Traveller (Mercury Nashville) broke back into the Top 10, while Justin Bieber’s Purpose (Def Jam) returned to the Top 15.

Thanks to discount pricing, Blake Shelton’s Reloaded: 20 #1 Hits (Warner Bros. Nashville)—on sale for 99 cents on Google Play—and Bob Marley & The WailersLegend (Tuff Gong/Island)—reduced to $7.99 on iTunes—re-entered at #30 and #34, respectively.

On the Album Sales Chart, the effect of discount pricing is even more noticeable, as one would expect. There, Marley landed at #22. Powered by a spotlight on greatest hits from singer/songwriters, Simon & Garfunkel’s Best of Simon & Garfunkel (Columbia/Legacy), which was available for $7.99, showed up at #23. At Google Play, Led Zeppelin’s Celebration Day was available for 99 cents. And thanks to a “$5.99 Rock Albums” sale on iTunes, The Doobie BrothersThe Best of the Doobies (Rhino), ZZ Top’s Eliminator (Warner Bros.) and Van Morrison’s Moondance (Rhino) re-entered at #38, #45 and #46, respectively.

Streeting on Friday (6/17) are records from Warner Bros.’ Red Hot Chili Peppers, Glassnote’s Mumford & Sons, Reprise’s Neil Young, Capitol Nashville’s Jon Pardi, Def Jam’s YG, eOne’s The Game and Island’s Jake Bugg.
