U.K. CHARTS: RICK ASTLEY FOR #1?

Rick Astley has edged ahead of Tom Odell in the U.K. Official Albums Chart rankings by nearly 1.5k with just one day to go, thanks in part to a campaign by widely read British tabloid The Sun. Will Astley scupper Odell’s chances of his second #1?

The chart race has become a very close public battle in Blighty between the young star and the ‘80s phenom. Odell was the frontrunner yesterday by 14 sales, until The Sun started backing Astley.

Released by BMG, 50 stood at just over 19.4k copies as of this morning, while Odell’s Wrong Crowd, which goes via Sony U.K. imprint Columbia, tailed at 18k.
