The Top 5 Highest-Grossing Films at the Domestic Box Office This Weekend

Three debuts led the Top 5 list of highest-grossing films in America this weekend, as Warner Bros.' The Conjuring 2 bowed with $40m, and Universal's Warcraft and Lionsgate's Now You See Me 2 followed with around $24m and $23m, respectively.

The list-topping horror flick nearly matched its predecessor's opening weekend number of $42m—a particularly rare feat for a sequel. The Conjuring 2 also earned a 75% from Rotten Tomatoes, while Warcraft and Now You See Me 2 both earned scores below 40%.

It's worth noting that although Warcraft was an arguable flop in the States (considering its $160m budget), it did, however, earn a whopping $156m or so from Chinese audiences in just five days.

1. The Conjuring 2 (Warner Bros.) $40m 3,343/$12,070 avg. (debut)
2. Warcraft (Universal) $24m 3,400/$7,164 avg. (debut)
3. Now You See Me 2 (Lionsgate) $23m 3,232/7,124 avg. (debut)
4. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows $15m 4,071/$3,635 avg. (week 2)
5. X-Men: Apocalypse (Fox) $10m 3,585/$2,789 avg. (week 3)
