FLIPOVER FRIDAY: iTUNES AND NEW MUSIC NOTES (PM UPDATE)

What’s new? Well, a lot. The bludgeoning rock of Danish band Volbeat (Vertigo/Capitol) tops the iTunes album chart on Friday at 2:30pm PDT, while Columbia Nashville’s Maren Morris sits at #2 with her full-length bow, Hero. Another stalwart of the country scene, Warner Music Nashville duo Dan + Shay, occupies the #3 spot.

Other new releases crowding the album leaderboard on this Flipover Friday include the ‘80s-loving, Greg Kurstin-produced set by Warner Bros.Tegan and Sara (#5), the hip-hop coalition TGOD Mafia (#6), Red Bull rockers Beartooth (#6), indie reggae band Rebelution (#7) andan acclaimed new set by the legendary Paul Simon (#9). 90 Live Inc.’s ST to the hit Broadway musical Waitress, featuring songs by Sara Bareilles, is tapping on the door at #11.

On the singles side, Island’s Shawn Mendes has vaulted over the glittery cadre that’s been clogging the Top 10 for weeks, seizing the #1 spot with new track “Treat You Better.” RCA’s Pink, meanwhile, continues to surge with her Alice ST tune “Just Like Fire,” holding at #4. The Mike WiLL-Made It tune featuring Rihanna, “Nothing Is Promised,” is already threatening the Top 10, having climbed to #12.

That’s just for starters—watch out for DJ Khaled’s “For Free” featuring streaming colossus Drake (We the Best/Epic), which dropped on Beats 1 this morning and could be a song of the summer by teatime; Capitol’s Beck, whose “Wow” is seriously a thing on the socials; a new joint from Kanye; Elle King’s Ghostbusters romp (RCA); and plenty more besides. Stay tuned, and the next one of you who says there’s nothing to listen to is getting such a zetz.
