JOHNSON'S "TEARS" ON A TEAR IN U.K. (UPDATE)

The new track from WMG’s Clean Bandit and SYCO’s X Factor 2015 winner Louisa Johnson, “Tears,” has shot to #5 on the U.K. Official Singles Chart at the midweek stage, thanks in part to a storming performance on Simon Cowell’s hugely popular TV talent show, Britain’s Got Talent, Saturday night on ITV.

The live BGT performance has had nearly 288k views on YouTube, and the single has had over 1m plays on Spotify and is currently #2 on the iTunes U.K. singles chart—up from #9 on Friday

Breakup ballad “Tears” was written by Clean Bandit’s Jack Patterson and Roc Nation-signed Sam Romans (Naughty BoyAlicia Keys). Johnson has been kept under wraps by SYCO since winning Simon Cowell's talent show at the end of last year, and this powerful track is her perfect reintroduction as a credible artist set for big things. The song is her first release since her X Factor winner’s single, a cover of Bob Dylan’s "Forever Young," which peaked at #9 last Christmas.

“Tears” has been playlisted by Capital and Bauer, and premiered on BBC Radio 1 on Friday. The track looks set to award Clean Bandit their fifth Top 5 hit in the U.K. Their biggest success so far is huge Jess Glynne #1 collaboration “Rather Be,” which, after ending 2014 as the year’s second-best selling single, has sold over 10m and won a Grammy for Best Dance Recording in 2015. To date, Clean Bandit have sold over 12m singles and 1.6m copes of their debut album, New Eyes, worldwide.

The group are managed by Iain Watt and Alistair White at Machine Management and looked after by Callum Caulfield at Ben Cook’s Warner Music U.K. subsidiary Atlantic. David Ventura at Sony/ATV takes care of publishing.
