MICROSOFT OFFERS EBB TIDE FOR STREAMING

New free-trial members of Microsoft's Groove Music streaming service will receive a cool premium: access to the standards compilation The Great Lyricists: Carl Sigman. The anthology features performances by Billie Holiday, Glenn Miller & His Orchestra, Dean Martin, Dinah Washington, Mel Tormé, Louis Prima, Sarah Vaughan, Shirley Bassey and other greats assaying material by a great American songwriter. It can also be downloaded for $5.99.

After the 30-day trial, a sub costs $9.99 per month, like Groove Music's competitors, with an option to pay $99.90 per year.

Sigman, whose credits include "Ebb Tide," "Pennsylvania Six Five Thousand," "Crazy He Calls Me" and "Enjoy Yourself (It's Later Than You Think)," was also the father of the brilliant journalist Mike Sigman, who crafted the profiles in our recent History of the Music Biz special issue. Mike grew up surrounded by music creators and businesspeople, and his native insight illuminates every section. (To get your hands on the issue, by the way, contact Robin at 818-506-8800).
