The Top 5 Highest-Grossing Films in America Over the Weekend

Three films debuted in the Top 5 at the domestic box office this weekend, with Sony's The Angry Birds Movie leading the way at #1 with $39m. That one was trailed closely by Universal's Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising at #3 with $22m and Warner Bros.' The Nice Guys at #4 with $11m.

Meanwhile, sliding to #2, Disney's Captain America: Civil War became the first film to surpass $1b earned worldwide in 2016, and it did so in just 24 days.

1. The Angry Birds Movie (Sony) $39m 3,932/$9,919 avg. (debut)
2. Captain America: Civil War (Buena Vista) $33m 4,226/$7,836 avg. (week 3)
3. Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising (Universal) $22m 3,384/$6,439 avg. (debut)
4. The Nice Guys (Warner Bros.) $11m 2,865/$3,934 avg. (debut)
5. The Jungle Book (Buena Vista) $11m 3,460/$3,184 avg. (week 6)

Outside the Top 5, IFC's Anthony Weiner documentary, aptly titled Weiner, scored a hot per-theater average, earning 85k from just five theaters.
