U.K. MIDWEEKS: PJ HARVEY'S CHART DEMOLITION

PJ Harvey’s American-themed ninth album, The Hope Six Demolition Project (Island), a reference to the Hope VI projects in the U.S., has shot to #1 on the U.K.’s midweek Official Albums Chart, sitting 2.5k combined sales ahead of nearest challenger, Santana’s self-released IV.

The Hope Six is released via Darcus Beese’s UMG U.K. label Island, which has had rather a good run lately, with Drake and Mike Posner both topping the Official Singles Chart. Harvey’s highest position on the U.K.’s Official Albums Chart thus far is #3 with Rid of Me in 1993, then #8 with Let England Shake in 2011. Will the veteran British singer score her first ever U.K. #1?

IV looks set to be Santana’s highest-charting record since 1999’s chart-topping Supernatural. Meanwhile, Adele’s 25 (XL) slips from #2 to #3, Sia’s This Is Acting (Monkey Puzzle/RCA) leaps five places to #4, and Aled Jones’ One Voice (Classic FM) completes midweek Top 5.

On the Official Singles side midweek stage, Drake could hold on to the #1 spot for a second week with “One Dance” (Island), while Sia’s “Cheap Thrills” (Monkey Puzzle/RCA) sits at #2. Mike Posner is a non-mover at #3 with “I Took A Pill In Ibiza” (Island), Fifth Harmony and Dolla Si$n sit still at #4 with “Work From Home” and Tinie Tempah and Zara Larsson are on track to break the Top 5 for the first time with “Girls Like” (Parlophone).
