POSTCARD FROM COACHELLA: THE CHAINSMOKERS

Presenting the first in a series of interviews with the artists performing at Coachella, conducted by our own Samantha Hissong—who informs us that Indio is actually on the surface of the sun. First up: Disruptor/Columbia's The Chainsmokers, whose "Don't Let Me Down" f/Daya is currently Top 10 at iTunes.

How important is playing festivals to you? What benefit do they provide?
It’s very important. We love that we can play in front of a diverse crowd of people and on some of the most advanced stages from a technological standpoint. It’s also just a lot of fun to enjoy other peoples’ music and get inspired.

If you could share a stage with any act for one fantastical fest moment, who would it be and why?
Wow, that’s a tough question! Hmmm… twenty one pilots are such great performers; that would be a really cool moment, but for the love of all things swaggy, Drake would be that moment.

What’s the craziest story you’ve either personally experienced at a festival or heard of via friends/colleagues?
Nothing we can share about our colleagues—we aren’t snitches—but we had one fan shave her head in the front row and then eat her hair, while blankly staring at us...

How do you plan on spending your downtime? How about the time between the two weekends?
Downtime? What’s that? Most likely, we’ll be in the studio working on some upcoming material, planning our festival, Dreaming, and remaking our set for weekend two. We gotta keep it fresh!

Anything you’d like fans to know about what they can expect from you in the near future?
Drew singing, an amazing live rendition of “Dont Let Me Down” and our own festival in select cities, called Dreaming, that’s gonna blow minds.
