ZAYN: Taking a bit off the top before hitting the top.

THIS CHART STORY
IS IN-ZAYN

RCA’s ZAYN—the first member of One Direction to go solo—has topped the HITS Album Sales Chart with 115k for his Mind of Mine. On the Sales Plus Streaming (SPS) Chart, the set scored another 41k, bringing its consumption total to 156k.

At #2, K. Michelle bows with 51k, as Columbia/XL Queen Adele moves to #3, pulling in 39k for 25 in its 19th week on the chart. For those keeping score, the latter songstress is coming up on 8.6m RTD.

Meanwhile, Sumerian’s Asking Alexandria (#X), J&R’s Joe Bonamassa (#4), Young Thug (#7), RCA’s Anthony Hamilton (#8) and Metal Blade’s Amon Amarth (#11) all debut in the Top 15.

The ACM Awards are officially so close, you can almost taste them, and word has it that they taste a hell of a lot like bourbon, but we wouldn’t recommend licking anything in Vegas. As weasels flock to Sin City for the shindig, Chris Stapleton’s Traveller (Mercury Nashville) and Joey + Rory’s Hymns (Gaither) hold in the Top 10. Will Stapleton and several other ACM topliners see sales spikes after the show? Stay tuned.

An Easter-adjacent iTunes sale caused chart bumps for an array of sets, including twenty one pilotsBlurryface (#14-9), as well as The Weeknd’s Beauty Behind the Madness (XO/Republic), which jumps #24-17, and Sia’s This Is Acting (Monkey Puzzle/RCA), which leaps #38-18—up 145%. Also on sale, Halsey’s Badlands (Astralwerks/Capitol) and Future’s EVOL (A1/Freebandz/Epic) both re-enter the chart at #36 and #40, respectively.

Streeting this week is the buzzing concept album from G.O.O.D./Def Jam’s Big Sean and ARTium/Def Jam’s Jhené Aiko, who are performing together under the name TWENTY88 and just revealed this new project on Wednesday 3/30. Also expect albums from Crush’s Weezer, Warner Bros.Lukas Graham and Big Machine’s Cheap Trick, as well as the latest Kidz Bop Kids installment.

And in totally unrelated news, Hooters (yes, that Hooters) just bought a private island, which they plan to use as a paradisiacal vacation destination, opening summer 2018. If this a product of April Fool’s Day, it’s one cruel joke.
