London-based indie [PIAS] is expanding its U.S. operations, including the opening of an L.A. office and a renewed sales and distribution deal with RED. The company now has dedicated offices in both New York and L.A.

These moves follow the acquisition of classical, jazz and world music label group Harmonia Mundi, and the L.A. office will be the hub for the company’s classical and jazz repertoire under newly named GM Matthew Owen.

The [PIAS] office in New York will continue to be overseen by GM Sean Maxson. New hires include National Radio Promotion Manager Allan Benedict and National Publicity Manager Sally Hedberg. The New York office will continue to work releases from wholly owned labels Play It Again Sam, Different Recordings and associated labels including Bella Union, Heavenly, Transgressive and Sunday Best.

The plan is to develop a roster of domestic artists to complement recent U.S. signings High Highs and Violent Femmes.

[PIAS] has also hired Maureen Spillane to run its Canadian operation.

“The U.S. expansion of [PIAS], including our new West Coast office, a growing label roster and a new team in L.A. reinforces our commitment to sensibly grow our presence in North America, said Group Managing Director Edwin Schröter. “In Sean and Matthew, we have two highly experienced executives who, together with their specialist teams, will add real weight to both our U.S. and global offering. Our alliance and close relationship with the RED team will provide a unique combination of dedicated specialist expertise and independent label culture with marketing and sales leverage.”
