Tab Nkhereanye has been upped to SVP A&R at Steve Bartels' Def Jam. The exec, who came aboard the label in 2014, oversaw the signing and development of breakout Alessia Cara. He's also the force behind another new Def Jam priority, JAHKOY, due to kick off later this year.
Bartels praised Nkhereanye's "incredible ability in both finding bright, new exciting talent, and shepherding relationships with some of our most iconic artists. In addition, as a successful songwriter, Tab has the unique experience to relate to artists and help bring their creative visions to life."
The A&R exec, for his part, called it "an honor to be part of the great Def Jam tradition," hailing Bartels, Faisel Durrani and team.
Nkhereanye's songwriting portfolio includes hits for Justin Bieber, Madonna, Mary J. Blige and Destiny's Child. He started his career at Bug Music/BMG in 2006, and served as a VP A&R at Sony/ATV starting in 2009.
If you're wondering how to pronounce his name, it's exactly like the diet soft drink. We kid! It's "en-keery-on-yay." Don't screw it up.
