SPOTIFY'S 30 MILLION

Spotify chief Daniel Ek today tweeted that the service has reached 30m subscribers. It's an impressive milestone for the streamery, which remains the big dog of the platform even as its largest competitor, Apple Music, continues to unfurl—and a fleet of new services prepare to launch (including on-demand subscription offerings from SoundCloud and Pandora).

The Swedish exec used the occasion of President Obama's trip to Cuba as an occasion for the tweet (see below); he's undoubtedly not the only music-tech titan contemplating the potential of that market opening up.

Ek and team say that both paid subscribers and overall users (last announced at 75m+) are growing rapidly. The latest figure follows on news that Spotify had closed a deal with the National Music Publishers Association (NMPA), signaling an ever-closer relationship with rights holders.
