SPOTIFY REACHES DEAL WITH NMPA

Spotify and the National Music Publishers Association have agreed on a pact that will enable rights holders to claim royalties for songs without ownership info.

Under the terms of the deal, publishers and songwriters will be able to identify works and lay claim to money previously set aside for "unmatched" material, with an additional compensation fund also to be established by the streaming service.

Proclaimed NMPA ruler David Israelite, "We must continue to push digital service to properly pay for the musical works that fuel their businesses."

Noted Spotify's Jonathan Prince, "As we have said many times, we have always been committed to paying songwriters and publishers every penny." It's now believed several pennies are involved.
