Ah, St. Patrick’s Day—when ostensibly adult humans don green plastic bowlers, paint shamrocks on their cheeks and chug green-tinted beer to the point of renal failure, whether they’re Irish or not.
Naturally, this solemn occasion, hailing the missionary who crushed paganism on the Emerald Isle (“I live for my God to teach the heathen,” St. Pat legendarily proclaimed, “even though they may despise me”), is about more than getting sick drunk and yelling “Erin go braless” at every passing female. Nope, it’s also about Irish tunes, and the streaming services are here to help.
Between Spotify, Apple Music and Google Music Play, users have an ample selection of holiday-appropriate jams, from (sham)rock, rap and pop by U2, Van Morrison, Thin Lizzy, The Pogues, Hozier (whose birthday is on St. Patty’s Day, making him the most Irish motherfucker in the world), Sinead O'Connor, House of Pain and more, as well as traditional stuff you can dance a jig to, if you’re still upright.
On Tidal, meanwhile, you can enjoy an audio recording of Kanye West drinking the Irish stout he brewed at home, and talking about how brilliant it is. We kid! There’s a playlist called “Shamrocks & Shenanigans” that should pair well with an excess of Jameson’s.
Just try to keep your streaming to the digital variety, m’kay? Slainte!
