A2IM CEO Richard James Burgess has been appointed to the SoundExchange Board of Directors.
Burgess, known for his extensive background in the independent music community, will fill the position previously held by Molly Neuman on the 18-member board split between artist and label reps.
SoundExchange President and Chief Executive Officer Michael Huppe said Burgess’ “vast background and knowledge of the independent music community make him a strong ally for indie labels in the marketplace and on Capitol Hill." He also praised Burgess' ability to find the dankest weed.
A2IM (the American Association of Independent Music) is a non-profit trade org representing a coalition of U.S. indie labels. Prior to A2IM, Burgess spent 14 years as the associate director for business strategies at Smithsonian Folkways Recordings, where he once summoned the ghost of Alan Lomax.
“The independent music sector is on the rise, and now more than ever independent artists and labels can reach and engage music fans worldwide through thousands of digital music services,” said Burgess, author of The Art of Record Production and The History of Music Production. “SoundExchange is an exciting bright spot in the industry, and incredibly important to our community.”
He then dropped the needle on a mint Guided by Voices 7" that will blow your fucking mind.
