SPOTIFY "OPENS" TO FACEBOOK

Companies Align With New Social Sharing Music Feature

Since one of the main ways we hear about new music is via referrals from our friends, Facebook and Spotify have been busy trying to figure out ways to make it easier to share music, and the next integration of Facebook Messenger will come embedded with tools to do just that.

This is Facebook's “very first music integration.”

Under Messenger's "..." menu there is now a button to jump directly to Spotify. Although sending an actual song or playlist is still a little clunky and requires a few clicks, it works and you can "search for something to share."

Once you select a song, artist, or playlist, you're pushed back to Messenger with the option to share a photo of the cover artwork. When your friend taps that photo, they’ll be bounced over to Spotify to listen.

If you're on a desktop however, you're out of luck.

Facebook has been keenly focused on developing a fertile landscape of apps that are compatible with Messenger, and Spotify is one of the bigger whales to come along. The social sharing of new music should only further help propel music discovery for Spotify, and for Messenger, it creates a pretty cool destination task, hopefully inspiring some in-depth convos about music amongst various groups of friends.
