NEW SONY U.K. ACTS RULE YTD SINGLES CHART

Jason Iley’s Sony Music U.K. has had an excellent start to the year, as a number of new artist campaigns get underway—and steal a significant share of the year-to-date bestselling singles chart, notching up nearly 2m combined sales. Six names out of Sony's eight in the Official Charts list were signed last year.

David Joseph’s Universal boasts seven entries and Max Lousada’s Warner two. In UMG’s list, there are three new acts, and in Warner’s one.

The fresh talent Sony’s backing in 2016 and beyond is as follows:

#6 ZAYN “Pillowtalk” (RCA)
#9 Snakehips feat. Tinashe & Chance the Rapper “All My Friends” (Columbia)
#12 99 Souls “Girl Is Mine” f/Destiny’s Child & Brandy (RCA)
#17 Craig David & Big Narstie “When the Bassline Drops” (Insanity/JEM/Speakerbox)
#18 Grace feat. G-Eazy “You Don’t Own Me” (Columbia)
#19 Zara Larsson “Lush Life” (Epic/Record Company Ten)

This year is Iley’s chance to prove his chops after taking the big job in April 2014. He began 2015 as victor of the BRIT Awards, taking home five out of the 11 gongs, and will be now be focusing on helping his top labels and execs develop the aforementioned acts, as well as nurturing some of Sony U.K.’s established talent. All of which we’ll be keeping a keen eye on so that you can too.
