DUAL PROMOTIONS AT SONY MUSIC U.K.

Savill, Tuer, Marshall: To quote the King, thankyouverymuch.

The hard work of two key execs at Jason Iley’s Sony Music U.K. has been rewarded, as COO Nicola Tuer ups Phil Savill to Managing Director of the label’s Commercial Music Group, while Ken Marshall takes on a new title as Senior Marketing Director.

Savill’s promotion comes after an exceptional year for Sony Music CG following the Elvis If I Can Dream phenomenon, which has now reached 1m sales in Blighty. The exec helmed the project from start to finish; it ended 2015 as the biggest-selling new release, boosting the label’s albums market share to 11.9%.

Previously Sony Music Commercial Group’s VP of Marketing, Savill joined the company in 1990 as a Commercial Product Manager.

Other successes include campaigns for Celine Dion, Barbra Streisand, Dolly Parton, Paul Simon, Faithless, Keep Calm and Unwind, and BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge.

Savill directly reports to Tuer, who praised his “encyclopedic music knowledge.” She continued: “Having worked with Phil for more than 20 years, I’m delighted for him and his richly deserved promotion.”

Ken Marshall has worked at Sony for more than a decade, looking after artists including Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, David Bowie, Foo Fighters, Kings of Leon and Beyoncé.

The promotion will see his previous role as Head of Marketing extended to overseeing the Frontline Commercial team and signing new and returning artists. Said Tuer: “The relationships that Ken has with his artists is something to be admired. His invaluable experience, plus his marketing dexterity will allow him to continue being one of the most highly regarded execs in the industry.

“I am thrilled about these two promotions. Both Phil and Ken are among the finest executives in the business, and I am extremely proud that they will be leading CMG into the future—with some extremely exciting plans ahead.”
