Mayor John Tory of Toronto announced yesterday that a key to the city will be awarded to local citizen/global superstar Aubrey Graham aka Drake.
The hip-hop icon has championed his hometown (which he refers to as the "Six") for years in lyrics with indomitable pride, even proclaiming himself to be Toronto's own "6 God." And then there's that new album on the way, Views From The 6.
The mayor's office announced via Twitter they will have the ceremony tonight during the NBA All-Star Celebrity Game, taking center court at Ricoh Coliseum around 6pm and airing on ESPN.
Drake met with the mayor last week, when they discussed a wide range of issues affecting the city, including gun violence.
“They talked quite a bit about Drake’s role in the city and all he’s contributed,” said spokesperson Amanda Galbraith. “This is kind of the start of a longer collaboration between the two of them.”
Tomorrow I’ll give out the Key to the City. This is why. @Drakehttps://t.co/dfdIVQW3yk
