Global Radio is reportedly considering ignoring surprise Beyoncé track, “Formation,” according to a report in U.K. tabloid the Mirror. With the BBC fully behind the song—out via Colin Barlow's Sony imprint RCA in Blighty—a blackout at Global will surely be ill-advised.
As HITS music-biz insider I.B. Bad noted in his latest column, "Formation" may not be released as a single. It is thought to be primarily intended as a perpetuation of Beyoncé's brand, and a setup for her just-announced tour.
It's currently available on Tidal and YouTube only, and the Global team are said to be waiting for a more officially released track from Beyoncé. Will they change their minds? A playlist meeting 2/11 will decide its fate.
Over at rival BBC, “Formation” has already had a few spins this week and will be sitting on the BBC Radio 1 C List from week beginning 2/15.
