The focus of music fans has shifted to the past these last couple of weeks, for compelling reasons, but a newly issued report from Nielsen reveals that this preoccupation has been in place for some time now. For the first time in recorded history, it seems, catalog album sales—defined as releases prior to the last 18 months at any given point—outsold frontline album sales in 2015. Let the theorizing begin.
