THE BOWERY NOISE

Will AEG purchase New York-based promoter and venue management org The Bowery Presents? The rumored $40m deal would give Jay Marciano’s AEG Live an enhanced presence in the New York market, where they currently don’t have much visibility. Inside sources say Live Nation has already passed; rumors also swirled about interest in Bowery from promoter/management entity C3 Presents.

Bowery was founded in 1993 by Michael Swier and John Moore, who began with NYC hipster club The Mercury Lounge (300 cap) and expanded in the ensuing years, to achieve a prominent presence across the East Coast and into the South. In 2006 former Live Nation New York chief Jim Glancy came aboard as a partner, and the company’s growth accelerated.

Their venues include The Bowery Ballroom, The Music Hall of Williamsburg and Terminal 5 in New York; The Royale and The Sinclair in Boston; The Fete Ballroom in Rhode Island; Union Transfer in Philadelphia; The 40 Watt Club in Athens, GA; The Buckhead Theatre and Terminal West in Atlanta; and The State Theatre in Portland, ME.
