BOWIE SOLD OUT
AT AMOEBA

In a scenario likely being repeated at independent stores nationwide, as well as around the world, Amoeba Music in Hollywood is sold out of David Bowie’s new album, Blackstar (Columbia), as well as most of his catalog. Signs throughout the store inform customers that Blackstar and other titles will be back in stock on Wednesday.

Chris Carmena, Amoeba General Manager, said he hasn’t seen an outpouring of this magnitude since the death of Michael Jackson. “It’s overwhelming,” he marveled. “So many people love Bowie’s music and his legacy. People have been inspired to pay tribute to Bowie by buying anything and everything you can imagine.”

The store itself is giving customers an opportunity to express what Bowie meant to them by providing two easels for customers to sign and the Amoeba sound system has been playing all Bowie, all day.

Carmena said the Amoeba staff had spoken to "some customers who told us they came to Amoeba today with no intention of buying anything. They came here simply because they wanted to be around other Bowie fans and they didn't know where else to go."
