U.K. MIDWEEKS: COLDPLAY AT #1 WITH 160K SALES
12/7/15

Coldplay is currently taking the lead on the Official Albums Chart in Blighty at the midweek stage with A Head Full of Dreams, racking up 160k sales in three days. However, that's just 2k in front of Adele’s 25 (XL/Columbia). Will it be enough to ensure the Parlophone band steal their seventh U.K. #1 album?

Promo has been big, with BBC Radio 1 declaring it "Coldplay Day" last Thursday ahead of their intimate gig in London, a live stream of the album on Facebook on release day, print and outdoor poster promo and extra dates added to their European tour. The band headlined Capital FM’s Jingle Bell Ball on Saturday and visited the Jonathan Ross Show on ITV that same evening.

A Head Full of Dreams is available on streaming services that offer a premium-only tier, but has yet to reach Spotify. However, despite the band holding out for four months with their previous two albums, MBW sources suggest it’s arriving later this week.

Other names in the Top 5 include Elvis Presley’s If I Can Dream (RCA/Legacy), which has been bumped one place to #3 and Justin Bieber’s Purpose (Def Jam) at #4. Jess Glynne’s I Cry When I Laugh (Atlantic) is set for a 16th consecutive week in the Top 10, currently at #5.

On the singles side of the fence, Bieber’s long domination is being challenged by another hit from Ministry of Sound.

The label, headed up by CEO Lohan Presencer and President David Dollimore, enjoyed two #1 singles within the space of six weeks in September and October.

For the second time, it’s producer Sigala who has teamed up with Brit singer/songwriter Bryn Christopher, this time for “Sweet Lovin’.” The track is sitting at #2 in the midweeks after shooting 66 places.

Bieber is still at #1 with “Love Yourself” and at #3 with “Sorry.” Adele’s “Hello” is down one place to #4, and “You Don’t Own Me” (Columbia) by Grace f/G-Eazy completes the Top 5.
