 U.K. CHARTS: ADELE, BIEBER REIGN

Adele is still Queen of the Official Albums Chart in Blighty, while Justin Bieber rules the Official Singles Top 5. 25 has shifted another 439k copies this week after hitting the million mark on Monday. The XL release has outsold the rest of the Top 10 combined and retains the #1 spot.

Elvis Presley’s blockbuster If I Can Dream (RCA/Legacy) is still selling strong, racking up 96k this week to occupy #2, while Bieber’s Purpose (Def Jam) sits at #3.

SYCO’s Little Mix jump two places to #4 with Get Weird and Atlantic U.K. act Jess Glynne is back in the Top 5; she spent nine weeks there following the release of her debut album, I Cry When I Laugh, in September, and now jumps three places to #5.

The biggest release from David Joseph’s Universal U.K. last week, The Vamps’ second album, Wake Up (Virgin EMI), debuts at #10. The priority album for Jason Iley’s Sony U.K., Il Divo’s Amor & Passion (SYCO), arrives at #12.

Bieber’s worldwide success continues following his third #1 single in Blighty with “Love Yourself.” His “Sorry” is at #2, and both songs enjoy big streaming numbers, with “Love Yourself” at 6 million (the most streamed track of the week), and “Sorry” at 5.5m. Bieber’s “What Do You Mean” is still at #4; with three Top 5 singles, he ties the record last achieved (posthumously) by John Lennon 34 years ago.

In beating himself to #1, Bieber has scored another rare feat. The last act to do so was Presley in 2005, when reissues of “Jailhouse Rock” and “One Night/I Got Stung” hit #1 in succession. The last living act to manage it in U.K. chart history was The Beatles in 1963, with “She Loves You” and “I Want to Hold Your Hand.”

Adele’s “Hello” is at #3, while newcomer Grace zooms 39 places to make her Top 40 debut. G-Eazy collab “You Don’t Own Me” (Columbia) is at #5 after being covered by X Factor contestant Lauren Murray on the show last weekend. The track, which appears on the House of Fraser holiday ad campaign, is a potential contender for this year’s Christmas #1.
